Matthew Fox on his DUI: claims 50% of offenders repeat?

Posted by Steven H. Fagan | Oct 19, 2012 | 0 Comments

According to Mr. Fox, "50 percent of people who get one DUI will get another".

Wow, we must be doing something right. For our clients, the rate is closer to under 25%. Mr. Fox's statement most likely comes from his DUI treatment and classes required as a result of his arrest and Court agreement. Not to denigrate the value of these programs, but this sounds dangerously like Mr. Fox got an Orwellian "reeducation", complete with MADD scare propaganda built in.

Or maybe we are in fact doing something right for our clients? Well, if we look at actual measurable numbers, 50% doesn't bear out. According to available data, the Illinois DUI recidivism rate (the percentage of people who have at least one prior DUI arrest) is under 30%.

So we still feel pretty good.
